When Roadside Assistance May Not Fix the Problem
Roadside assistance is appropriate only when the vehicle problem can be addressed safely at the current location. A tow may be required when the issue involves damage or failure that cannot be corrected with a standard roadside service.
- The vehicle will not start after a jump start
- The battery repeatedly loses power
- The starter or alternator appears to have failed
- The engine is overheating
- The transmission will not shift into gear
- The vehicle has steering or suspension damage
- The tire cannot be changed safely
- The spare tire is missing, flat, damaged or incompatible
- The wheel, hub or axle is damaged
- The vehicle has accident damage
- The vehicle has a fuel-system problem rather than an empty tank
- The vehicle remains stuck after recovery
- The roadside location is unsafe for service
When Towing Is Required Instead
When roadside service cannot restore safe vehicle operation, Buffalo Towing Services may transport an eligible vehicle to a repair shop, dealership, body shop, home or another approved destination.
| Vehicle Condition | Recommended Next Service |
|---|---|
| Vehicle will not start after a jump start | Local towing to a repair facility |
| Accident, wheel, steering or suspension damage | Accident towing and damaged-vehicle transport |
| AWD, EV, low-clearance or severely disabled vehicle | Flatbed or appropriate vehicle transport |
| Vehicle must travel more than 25 loaded miles | Long-distance towing within New York |
| Qualifying larger work vehicle cannot be driven | Medium-duty towing |
